A great satisfaction for Abruzzo wine: the second edition of Words of Wine, hosted by Marco Sabellico from Il Gambero Rosso, confirmed the significant presence of regional wines on national and international press, awarding some important journalists of the sector who are engaged in the valorisation of our quality wines.
From journalism to wine academies, Abruzzo's wine specialties conquered also the Masters of Wine, as stated by the president of the world's most prestigious wine institute, Sarah Jane Evans, guest of honour of the event.
«I discovered a wonderful territory – Evans said – with excellent wines showing tremendous potential. Consumers are more and more interested in local grape varieties conveying the distinctive features of the regions of origin: in this sense, Abruzzo has a lot to offer».
In addition to celebrating the achieved results, the event also inspired reflections on the opportunity to continue the communication activities of Abruzzo wines; these activities have recently been much appreciated in Tuscany and have been taken as a model of best practice within a workshop at University of Florence.
«We need to combine our efforts – said the president of the Consortium Tonino Verna – to team up in order to communicate our excellence to the world, to conquer quality and volume markets».
Awarded with the “Calice di Onice” whose author, artist Ettore Spalletti, realized numbered copies:
Special award for Sarah Jane Evans and for Mauro Tedeschini, director of the newspaper Il Centro.
Among the special mentions for the “firme d'Abruzzo” (“Abruzzo writers”), the magazine C come Magazine, the portal Abruzzo Servito, the newspaper Il Messaggero and TV channels Rete 8 and Tgr Abruzzo.
The event was attended also by the regional councillor for agriculture, Dino Pepe, who recalled the engagement for the wine industry of the Region, who recently approved the Rural Development Plan and wants to seize the opportunity of the Expo in order to promote Abruzzo.
The event was promoted by the four presidents of the Abruzzo Consortiums: Tonino Verna from the Consorzio di Tutela Vini d’Abruzzo, Alessandro Nicodemi from the Consorzio di Tutela Montepulciano Colline Teramane, Giancarlo Di Ruscio from the Consorzio di Tutela DOP Tullum and Francesco Falcone from the Consorzio di Tutela Ortona DOC.
