Vinitaly 2013: the success of the wines from Abruzzo

Great success for the wines of the Abruzzo Region at Vinitaly 2013, thus proving to be an excellence of the made in Italy. A whole territory and its culture have been highlighted in Verona. A lot of compliments arrived from critics, from staff, from audience and from buyers

Vinitaly 2013 raised the visibility of the Consortium and it encouraged the enhancement and the promotion of the “Abruzzo system” of the wine.

In addition to the success and the positive reviews from critics and the press, the wine sector of Abruzzo also gained several awards and very important rewards for many cellars of the Consortium.

Renato Mannheimer presented the value and the potentiality of the DOC of the Abruzzo Region, through the latest news of the ISPO Research on the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. He stated that the popularity of this wine has gained an increase of 2%. 92% of the Italian people know and drink it.

Renato Mannheimer added that the flagship of the regional DOC is a real star among all the Italian wines and its communication activities obtained great success. The prospects for the future are positive.

Radio 24, the Italian famous national radio station was the prestigious media partner of the Consortium. It broadcasted live from the stand of the Consortium. Some of its most famous and appreciated shows, as the “Gastronauta” by the food&wine journalist Davide Paolini, were broadcasted from the stand of the Consortium, thus highlighting the DOC wines of the Abruzzo Region and all the events related to them.

The Consortium had a great success also because this wine has been presented also through the cultural and natural universe of the Abruzzo Region.

In fact, the combination between art and wine was very successful: 26 impressive works of art were exhibited at the stand of the Consortium during the Vinitaly, thus catching the attention of several visitors. This exhibition entitled "Serie di Scanno" by the well-known photographer Mario Giacomelli, that had great success in New York.

The exhibition presented for the first time all of the pictures taken by the photographer in the '50s in the village of Scanno, in Abruzzo. This exhibition was launched by Davide Paolini, the well-known "Gastronauta" of Il Sole 24 Ore newspaper, along with the gallerist Rizziero Di Sabatino, the presidents of the Consortia of Abruzzo, Tonino Verna and Alessandro Nicodemi and Mauro Febbo, the Regional Counselor of Agriculture.

At Vinitaly, there was also the presentation of the great publishing project that Slow Food dedicated to the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo: the book "Montepulciano d'Abruzzo: a great wine". Marco Bolasco, the editorial director at Slow Food, explained the aim of the book, emphasizing the great value, the richness and the uniqueness of the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wine. The preface of the book has been edited by Carlo Petrini , the founder of the Slow Food movement, the pioneer and the interpreter of a new food&wine perception.

Satisfaction, enthusiasm and awareness of its own value and a strong will to keep on working for the success of the wines of Abruzzo. All these concepts have been expressed in detail by the Presidents of the Consortia of the Abruzzo Region, which have stated: «We are already working in order to be more competitive next year, at the Vinitaly 2014».
